Submission details for poetry:
Formatting expectations for poetry submission are much the same as prose. To ease the mind, here are a few suggestions:
- If your work is brief in length, you may attach it in the body of your email. Note, however, this usually ruins any formatting you incorporated
- If your work is longer, please send it as a Word DOC or RTF file, attached to your email
- Include your details - name, email, etc, at the START of your document (not just in your email). Also include the work's word /line count.
- Use HEADERS and FOOTERS - your name and the work's title in the Header, the page number in the Footer (I cannot stress how important page numbers are - you'd be surprised how often this escapes potential contributors)
- Put [THE END] or [END] or even an asterisk * after the last line of your work (which just so happens to be the end)
- If you need to submit via other types of files then email first with such information before submitting the file.
- In the email heading, submit as per the example:
Eclecticism Submission: My Poem Title, by My Name
Yes, the above suggestions are laced with sarcasm. But too many potential contributors are not taking the time to include such simple items - I haven't evolved into a nagging editor yet, but may one day reach the limit of tolerance where those not following proper manuscript formatting will instantly be rejected.
Good luck!
