We need you!

Eclecticism accepts submissions via e-mail, year-round. The editor usually considers submissions for each theme until the start of the month of publication (eg. if you submit for the January theme, the cut-off is the first week of January). Don't forget, there is also an open section for all work.

What you need to know to submit to Eclecticism:

You've embraced the concept and style of Eclecticism, or you just want to get your work out there to a virtual world of criticising minds. It's time to submit your work!

For ease of printing, Eclecticism will be presented in A4 size, but, keeping with its name, will feature a mix of landscape and portrait layouts. So, unless otherwise stated, Eclecticism is looking for:

  • Short Fiction (incl. Flash Fiction) - max. length: 7,000 words (query editor if your work is longer)
  • Poetry - all styles, most lengths considered (convince us length is warranted)
  • Artwork (Illustrations, Paintings, Photography, etc) - Eclecticism is always looking for Featured Artists and themed work
  • And Eclecticism is always looking for very short fillers in prose and poetry, as well as comic strips

Eclecticism expects that the contributor will submit with the required level of manuscript formatting. If you are unsure what this is, Google it (many other editors have put a great deal of time into such examples). To ease the mind, here are a few suggestions:

  • Include your details - name, email, etc, at the START of your document (not just in your email, or it may get lost when saved). Also include the work's word count.
  • Use HEADERS/FOOTERS - eg. your name and the work's title in the Header, the page number in the Footer (we cannot stress how important page numbers are - you'd be surprised how often this escapes potential contributors)
  • Put [THE END] or [END] or even an asterisk * after the last line of your work (which just so happens to be the end)
  • Use DOUBLE SPACING (for Prose),
  • and an EASY TO READ FONT (Courier New, Times New Roman, etc)
  • Send all text as Word DOC or RTF files, attached to your email (short poetry may be in the email body)
  • In the email heading, submit as per the example:

Eclecticism Submission: My Story Title, by My Name - 2,000 words

  • Also state, in the body of your email, whether you are submitting to the themed or open section.

I am open to simultaneous submissions (max.3), but in most cases only one of your works will be used per issue (3 artworks may be used).

Email your work to THE EDITOR at:

Response times are usually under 6 weeks. If you have not heard a response by then, feel free to send a query email.

That's a lot to take in, so GOOD LUCK!
